ALEX VON.
Alex Von creates abstract expressionist art. Embedded metaphors fall into meditative, philosophical and parable-esque themes meant to challenge the observer. His work often references a tradition of remembrance art and a lens towards transcendence and visual storytelling.
Both abstract and representational subject matter emerge throughout his paintings and illustrations.
Mythological themes often appear in his contemplative art - drawing inspiration from Greek mythology, Egyptian hieroglyphs and cave paintings.
Each piece makes a stylistic leap, allowing the viewer to appreciate the variety of strategies Alex uses to create images. Ultimately, he hopes the observer will approach each work as if looking at his or her reflection in the mirror.
Alex was born in Cadiz, Spain and spent his very early years in Puerto Rico. He grew up in Central Florida. His vision for a wider field of possibilities led him to studies in France, Italy, and Australia and ultimately to New York City. He holds a B.A. in history and a M.A. in international relations.
